ENK is the story of a Functional Nutritionist – Margaret – and a Whole Foods Chef – James – who combined forces to demystify and revolutionize your relationship with food, health and nourishment. (Oh, and we fell in love too.)

We’re parents. We believe in the body’s profound capacity for healing. And we’ve made it our mission to heal the world through food, one kitchen at a time.

I had my first experience with the power of food in my mid-20s when a change to my diet resolved the raging eczema I’d struggled with for years. Since then I’ve fixed my long-term digestive issues, transformed crippling periods into non-events, reversed my auto-immune disease, and brought my migraines from weekly nightmares to the rare and infrequent blips. All through food and natural strategies. 

Since 2008 I’ve been working with clients all over the world to transform their health – and thus their lives – through diet. My primary focus is on digestive issues, fertility and hormonal issues, and natural solutions for autoimmune disease. I’ve also helped clients reverse their diabetes, get to their ideal weight, and turn around any number of “mysterious” health complaints. If you’ve made all the obvious changes to your diet and lifestyle and still feel like garbage, I’m the one who’ll do the deeper digging to find out what’s really going on – and get you well. 

Wondering about credentials? Well, I’ve been doing this a long time and have racked up a few: I’m a Certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP), Restorative Wellness Specialist, Certified GAPS Practitioner, Certified Healing Foods Specialized, and Certified Gluten Practitioner, not to mention the thousands of hours I’ve put into various continuing education and seminars around the country. I also train other practitioners in the advanced functional nutrition tools and techniques I use via Restorative Wellness Solutions, and speak around the country on the power of food in health. 

I wrote my first book, Eat Naked: Unprocessed, Unpolluted and Undressed Eating for a Healthier, Sexier You, in 2011. In the middle of that process, I happened to meet a cute and very knowledgeable chef at a group training run. We got to chatting and discovered a mutual love of food and very similar beliefs around its importance to health. We started working together on the recipe chapter of the book, and I was so impressed with his passion and culinary abilities (not to mention his gluten-free peanut butter cookies) that I married him. True story.

When I was 13 years old, I made dinner for my parents for the first time. It was a tostada salad. But what I remember most is the feeling as they sat down and dug into that meal. I felt so much LOVE: love for my parents, the love that inspired me to cook for them, and the love they experienced as they enjoyed my dinner. The joy I felt was so palpable. I knew right then that this was something I had to do. 

In my college years I learned quickly the impacts of a junk food diet as I went screaming (literally) to the hospital in the agony of passing a kidney stone. Turns out a diet of root beer and pizza is not as sustainable as I thought… 

After studying at the Natural Gourmet Institute of Health and Culinary Arts in New York in 2004, I was a specialty chef for the Van’s Warped tour, I private cheffed for some of the biggest names in Hollywood, I founded and led the healthy LA-based meal delivery company, Wholesome2Go, for its first 8 years, and authored recipes for my own and others’ cookbooks, not least of which was that fateful collaboration with Margaret, which yielded two gorgeous girls, two cookbooks (the Naked Foods Cookbook and the Ultimate Immune Boosting Gummy Book), and a lot of lives transformed. 

These days I support our clients with customized recipes and meal plans based on their specific dietary requirements, I author recipes for functional medicine practitioners (most recently Dr. Alejandro Junger’s Clean7), I consult for restauranteurs, train home kitchen staff, destination private chef and I inspire and educate people to take control of their health through their kitchen by speaking and teaching throughout North America. If you’ve got a special diet you’re following and don’t know what to eat, I’m the one who will help you figure it out, and make the experience not only doable, but delicious.
